I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If you are unable to locate a water valve to turn off, then you could try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside your home to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

While you wait for our plumber to arrive, start cleaning up any water, position a container to catch any drips, and remove important items from the affected area. If the mains water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
